You agree to the terms of service below, and the Terms of Use for Substack, the technology provider.

Happy New Year, readers!

My intention is to say nothing here that I haven't already said, whether in words, between the lines, or behind the veil of metaphor. Instead of saying anything new, I would like to distill what I've said into cautionary fine print that applies not only to all my Substacks, but also to all my media.

I begin the year with this fine print — and I even published it as a post — because I actually want people to read my Terms of Service and Consumer Safety Warnings. As a post-corporate provider of Dialogue as a Service (DaaS), I amplify what my corporate counterparts often suppress. I only want readers to subscribe with informed consent, even if that means that fewer readers will subscribe.

There's another self-imposed constraint on the growth of my Substacks. As a form of resistance to the kleptocratic attention economy, I apply the standards of earned attention and permission-based marketing to my work. I refuse, for example, to import my email and LinkedIn connections into Substack. Instead, I offer readers the option to opt-in.

Given these self-imposed constraints, I'd like to attract subscribers organically through word of mouth. If you have found value in what I've published so far and know someone who may benefit from my ‘content’, please spread the word.

Terms of Service and Consumer Safety Warnings - 2024

  1. You are consuming this content through media designed to addict you and mine your data for profit without any concern for your needs.

  2. This Substack may not be appropriate for some readers. Even with the publisher’s best intentions, consumption of this content may cause adverse side effects. Caveat Emptor!

  3. This content may lead to a free or paid subscription to this M2D or DaaS, or another publication or service. The publisher does not currently offer refunds. Always consult at least your inner financial advisor before you subscribe.

  4. By clicking on this post, you expose yourself to content published without editors, fact-checkers or proofreaders. Some experts believe that the proliferation of such content is a major contributor to the pollution of our media ecology.

  5. The author of this post holds no professional licenses. He’s just a man with a bunch of Substacks and consuming enthusiasms. He describes himself as a “post-corporate” voice in the wilderness of the attention economy. Nothing he writes or communicates through any medium provides a substitute for the advice of licensed practitioners of established advisory and therapeutic arts.

  6. Across the publisher’s Substack portfolio, any statements about future events are covered by Safe Harbor provisions, and consumers of this content should carefully consider the risks and uncertainties likely to cause actual events to differ from those anticipated or implied by the forward-looking statements.

  7. Dialogue as a Service is only available through DaaS. M2D subscriptions are not purchases of a service beyond unrestricted access to published posts. I think of M2D subscriptions as expressions of solidarity, which I deeply appreciate.

  8. The author of this post is on a mission to expose the super-spreaders of second-order ignorance (ignorance of ignorance) whom he first described (without naming names) in Diagnosis Impossible: Learning to See the Problem. Anything you say or do in response to this post can and will be used in the service of the author's mission.

If you understand these warnings and terms of service but remain undaunted, please subscribe.
